Welch Allyn Partners with Pelstar, LLC, to Enable Automated Interface between Select Vital Signs Devices and Health o meter® Professional Scales

Welch Allyn, a leading global provider of medical diagnostic equipment, today announced it has partnered with Pelstar, LLC, maker of Health o meter® Professional scales to enable automated interface between the Welch Allyn Connex® Vital Signs Monitor (CVSM), the Welch Allyn Spot Vital Signs® LXi and select Health o meter® Professional medical scales.  The partnership allows Welch Allyn to offer for the first time a connected weight, height and body mass index (BMI) patient data solution for both physician and hospital customers in low-acuity settings.  Automating the interface between the respective devices can help eliminate documentation errors by reducing the need for manual parameter recording, while also increasing the speed of recording weight, height and BMI into   electronic medical records (EMRs).

“For almost 100 years, Welch Allyn has been a leader in diagnostic devices and vital signs collection with its outstanding blood pressure, thermometry and SpO2 technologies,” said Kelley Murphy, senior director, Vital Signs Category Management at Welch Allyn.  “The availability of connectivity between Welch Allyn vital signs devices and Health o meter® Professional scales allows us to add weight, height and BMI to our comprehensive list of automated vital signs that can be transferred to an EMR.”

Connectivity-ready Health o meter® Professional scales, under the agreement, include electronic column scales for physician and hospital settings, pediatric scales, and wheelchair and bariatric scales—designed to accommodate every kind of patient need quickly and accurately. These scales operate digitally and are equipped with BMI, easy-to-read display, and zero-out, auto zero and auto-off features.

“Most visits to the doctor start with the measurement of vital signs—blood pressure, temperature, and, of course, weight—all essential information in the proper care and treatment of the patient,” said Dan Maeir president and CEO of Pelstar, LLC.  “Almost everywhere you find a Health o meter ® Professional scale, it seems you find a Welch Allyn vital signs device in use as well, so this partnership is a natural fit. We are proud to partner with Welch Allyn and we look forward to the opportunities and benefits this creates not only for both companies, but, most importantly, for healthcare professionals and their patients around the world. ”
