United States Accesss Board

In July 2024, the U.S. Access Board published new standards for medical diagnostic equipment (MDE) to ensure accessibility for all patients. Healthcare providers must comply with these standards within specified timelines:

  • Starting October 8, 2024: All medical device equipment acquired by state and local government entities must be accessible.
  • By August 9, 2026: Facilities must have at least 10% of their equipment, but no fewer than one unit, meeting the standards (20% for mobility rehabilitation facilities).

Designed to Meet the US Access Boards Standards: Medical facilities operated by state and local governments, also known as public entities, must comply with the MDE Standards for Accessible Medical Diagnostic Equipment, which is enforced by the Department of Justice.
